Solar Victoria’s latest update is here, so what Solar Victoria’s new standards mean for you as a homeowner or solar customer is more important than ever.
We have broken down what Solar Victoria’s new standards mean for you and how they’ll impact solar, battery and hot water installations from July 2025.
Released as part of the 2025–26 Notice to Market, the updated standards bring clearer protections, stronger performance requirements, and future-ready systems across the state.
1. Warranties Now Include Labour
From 1 September, any system installed under the Solar Homes Program must come with a product warranty that covers labour, not just parts. Retailers must also cover all costs involved in a warranty claim, giving homeowners more peace of mind.
2. Tighter Controls on Hot Water Installations
With heat pump hot water systems gaining popularity, Solar Victoria is raising the bar:
-
All new plumbers must undergo specialist training in heat pump system design and installation.
-
Retailers should recommend systems that maximise operation during daylight hours, meaning more savings if you already have solar.
3. Retailers Must Be Transparent About Savings
If a retailer claims a system will give you a strong return on investment, they’ll now need to provide a clear financial performance estimate with upfront savings info. This ensures you get a realistic view before buying.
4. Regular Maintenance = Better Performance
Solar Victoria now recommends servicing solar and battery systems every two years to keep them safe and running efficiently. This must be done by a licensed, accredited electrician.
5. Battery Rules Still Apply
Even though the battery rebate has closed, systems already approved for installation must follow the new rules for safety and performance.
Why This Matters
What Solar Victoria’s new standards mean for you is simple: better protection, greater transparency and more confidence in your system’s long-term performance.
